How Mixology was created

In 2001 the two bartenders Jens Hasenbein and Helmut Adam met while working in Lore Bar in Berlin. Because of the lack of valuable information in the bar scene and the poor quality of trade publications, they decided to found their own magazine. Almost all contributors for the first issue of Mixology magazine, that was published in March 2003, were recruited in Lore bar: cartoonist Elias Hauck, graphic designer Chrish Klose and author Markus Orschied have all been using the shakers in Lore bar and and still work for Mixology magazine to date.

Who designs Mixology?

Layout and design, print and online, for Mixology magazine are crafted by Die Sachbearbeiter.

Who writes for Mixology?

Over the years we have built up a strong international team of authors. Our aim is to recruit our authors right at the core of our industry: the cocktail bar. People who write for us are all working in bars or a bar related environment. We do only work with people who feel a deep passion for the bar business. Among them are (in no particular order): Angus Winchester, Naren Young, Anistatia Miller, Jared Brown, Jeffrey Morgenthaler, Tug van den Bergh, Goncalo de Sousa Monteiro, Stephan Berg, Jörg Meyer, Jürgen Deibel, Samir H. Köck, Markus Orschied and David Wiedemann

The Bar Convent Berlin

In October 2007 the team behind Mixology gathered their reader community in one place for the first time: the annual Bar Convent in Berlin. This mixture between trade show and symposium attracted over 1000 visitors from 15 countries in its first year. The BCB saw cocktail demonstrations, trade talks and the launch of new beverage products.
