Winners of the Mixology Bar Awards 2009
On the 6th of October 2009 the Mixology Bar Awards were presented in Berlin. Charles Schumann from Schumanns Bar in Munich was honored for his lifetime achievement. Bar "Le Lion" in Hamburg won "Bar of the Year 2009" while the new "Mixology City Award" went to the Hamburg bar scene.
Being nominated for a Mixology Bar Award has become the annual highlight for bartenders, bars and spirits brands from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. This year the much coveted awards for outstanding performances in the bar industry were offered in six categories: Bar Team of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, Mixologist of the Year, Bar of the Year, Spirit of the Year and Lifetime Achievement. A new addition was furthermore the "Mixology City Award" for the bartender city team with the best performance during the award ceremony.
The five sponsor bars (Schweppes, Jack Daniel's Single Barrel, Brugal, Finsbury & Sierra Milenario and Havana Club) were run by teams from Dresden, Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Cologne. The bartenders from bars all over the country had teamed up to create creative drinks and thought out presentations. To conclude the ceremony, the audience decided by applause, which bar scene deserved the new challenge cup.
The winners of the Awards
The Mixology Bar Awards 2009 were hosted by Gregor Scholl (Rum Trader, Berlin) and Philip Duff (Door 74, Amsterdam). They were supported in handing over the massive trophies by the other jury members: Stefan Gabanyi (Schumanns, Munich), Marco Pani (Bar Italia, Vienna), Markus Blattner (Widder Bar, Zurich) and Franz Brandl (cocktail book author). how can Belgium get the chance to be nominated to mixology bar awards 2010?
I work at Crystal Lounge, probabily the best cocktail bar in Brussels, together with other 2 national cocktail champions(2008/2009). I respect this recognition from mixology awards and we want to have a chance to compete next to the best! please consider Belgium this year! best regards, Miguel Santos

Hello Miguel, thanks for your interest in the Mixology Bar Awards. Unfortunately only bars from the GSA countries (Germany, Switzerland and Austria) are judged by the jury at this point. And as always, if it comes to awards, this is already a complicated procedure with 3 countries involved. But I've heard that the Venuez barshow is coming to Belgium soon. Maybe they'll be running awards for your bar scene as well. HA
